EC: ISS-Industrial Start/Stop with Smartstart Motor Protection
Power - Motor control: Cerus' ISS starters with Smartstart Motor Control Modules combine control, electronic motor protection, and automation system I/O in one unit, making them the industry's most advanced motor start/stop controls. This is a Control Engineering 2013 Engineers' Choice Awards Honorable Mention.
Control Engineering
The new ISS with Smartstart from Cerus Industrial is the industry's most advanced motor starter. It has been designed to seamlessly incorporate operator control, superior overload protection, and automation system compatibility, while being housed in a compact, ruggedized unit.
Each starter accepts three dry voltage inputs in a wide range for activation by remote control, thereby eliminating the need for interposing relays. Wet inputs (12-250 V ac) are available for remote start and shutdown commands. Additional control options include remote fault, proof of flow, and Smartstart predictive calibration (fault alarm).
The starter also records information relating to the last 10 faults. Integrated LED pilot lights and remote keypad are standard, simplifying setup and verification. Upon motor start-up the electronic Smartstart overload allows the starter to look for a safe operating range based on motor starting current. If starter is not calibrated within that range, an alarm is activated and the starter contactor opens, protecting against operators increasing the overload to overcome motor jams or other impedances and to prevent base line rotor stall, and other undesirable starting conditions.
With direct 208-600 V ac connection, distributors can eliminate the occurrence of mis-sized units being sent to the job site while significantly reducing latent inventory. The ISS with Smartstart is available for ordering today in UL Type 1, 3R, and 4 enclosures. Type 4 enclosures feature a 3-position switch for Start/Stop/Remote and a Run Pilot Light.
