Motion Control - Drives: The MV1000 is a full featured medium voltage drive, providing outstanding quality, performance, flexibility and system friendliness for medium voltage applications, from 200 to 5,000 hp. This is a Control Engineering 2014 Engineers’ Choice honorable mention.Most medium voltage drives offer energy savings and improved process control. The MV1000 provides these features, of course, but takes motor control performance and power quality to a higher level.

Yaskawa's Smart Harmonics Technology reduces input total harmonic distortion (THD) to less than 2.5% without filters. The resulting input waveform is near sinusoidal, exceeding the requirements of IEEE 519-1992.

A 9/17 Level Output Waveform is achieved using Enhanced Cascaded H Bridge (CHB) configuration. The MV1000 uses two 5 V step bridges per phase to generate a high quality waveform. This results ultimately in a 17-level line-to-voltage output delivered to the motor. The near sinusoidal waveform results in a low THD voltage, low torque ripple, and excellent low speed torque, all motor friendly features, again without the need for output filters.

Open Loop Vector control enables smooth acceleration from low speed without using an encoder. Closed Loop Vector control is also available for the most demanding applications. The MV1000 can be also applied to synchronous motors. Multiple motors can be run in parallel with a single drive to reduce system footprint and cost.

The MV1000 also features a compact design that facilitates transportation, installation, and maintenance. The design includes a transformer panel with inherent isolation, power cell panel, control section, and cooling fans resulting in an industry leading MTBF (mean time between failure) of 200,000 hrs. An optional, integrated input switchgear panel is also available with all UL/CSA recognized components.

The MV1000 is further simplified by incorporating the same interfaces as Yaskawa 1000 series low voltage drives. This includes the same digital operator, parameter structure, a medium voltage version of the Drive Wizard Plus software utility, various communication plug-ins and the same USB copy unit.

The MV1000 is available in 2.4 kV and 4.16 kV models with ratings from 200 to 5,000 hp.
