Control Engineering Product Exclusive: Full-featured HMI/SCADA software, InduSoft Web Studio (IWS) v7.1, adds many productivity features and tools. Courtesy: InduSoftInduSoft Inc. announces the upcoming enhancement (expected second-quarter 2012) of its InduSoft Web Studio (IWS) v7.1 HMI/SCADA software, which adds many substantial features. Continuing 100% forward compatibility since version 1.0, version 7.1 adds collaboration tools, increased support for mobile and tablet devices, several performance improvements, and many other enhancements. The collaboration tool option compares configuration files, merges changes from multiple developers, and adds support for source control. Interaction with Microsoft’s Team Foundation Server allows for complete “Application Lifecycle Management.”

Improving upon InduSoft’s impressive lineup of three types of thin clients, introduced in v7.1 is platform-independent support for graphics, trends, meters, alarm displays, and more. This feature, dubbed Mobile Access, is available for use on browsers used by popular mobile devices. Safari and the iPad, Android phones and tablets, Firefox, and Chrome will be supported. Users can view and (optionally) interact with process values (tags) and setpoints, all with security in mind. This improved Mobile client builds on the text-based version that has been available for several years. This feature allows operations and maintenance staff to be more efficient, monitoring and interacting without physically traveling to the site. It saves fuel, travel time, and money.

General performance enhancements have been made, including improved screen switching time up to 100% (twice as fast) with benchmark projects. Many additional features are supported with v7.1, including RSLogix 5000 tag integration, and OPC UA on Microsoft Windows CE.
