PLCs use CoDeSys IEC 61131-3 programming

Product Exclusive: Eaton XC controllers with Controller Development Software (CoDeSys) advance lean automation with powerful, modular systems for open, scalable, and high-performance control.

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation introduces XC controllers with Controller Development Software (CoDeSys) to the North American market. Already available in Europe, the modular XC programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are scalable to meet individual and evolving automation system requirements for small and medium-sized systems. The XC PLCs provide fast, cost-efficient control for global food packaging, renewables, and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) applications.

Courtesy: Eaton Corp.“Industry-leading Eaton control and automation solutions are designed to make processes Lean by reducing engineering design, commissioning, and/or materials costs, while enabling best-in-class solutions,” said Richard Chung, product manager at Eaton. “The XC modular controllers provide customers with a flexible scalable design, so they are able to create custom automation systems while utilizing the CoDeSys development software—an open programming environment.”

The XC modular PLCs include XC100 and XC200 devices. For small and medium-sized control tasks, XC100 controllers provide powerful control with an integrated CANopen fieldbus interface for fast, efficient communication. For additional communications and high-processing capacity, the XC200 controllers have an Ethernet interface and an optional integral web server, in addition to the RS232 interface and CANopen fieldbus connections. Ethernet access provides both efficient communications between controllers and data exchange to high-level control systems, using communications standards including Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) for Process Control (OPC).

For customizable control, XC controllers are easily expandable with compact, high-speed input/output (I/O) modules. Up to 15 XIOC local expansion modules can be connected directly to each controller and are available in a variety of high-density channels, analog, temperature, counter, and communication modules. Additionally, XC controllers have eight digital inputs and six digital outputs as standard.

XC controllers use the CoDeSys programming environment, which is International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61131-3 compliant and supports interoperability with devices from multiple vendors. CoDeSys has a range of features for programming, testing, and commissioning that simplifies and organizes program documentation, diagnostics, and debugging.
