Tool calibration system for robots adjusts programming to compensate
The TCP-3D by Leoni is designed for all robots and uses an in-line system sensor to precisely detect a tool's position without the need for reorientation or recalibration.
Leoni's advintec TCP-3D is a high-precision tool calibration system for robots. The TCP-3D can be used with any robot, regardless of make or manufacturer, that uses rotation-symmetric tools. The TCP-3D measures the tool’s position electronically across all six dimensions, and automatically adjusts the corresponding control program to ensure the tool is always in the correct position.
The TCP-3D uses an in-line sensor system to detect the tool’s position and deviation from the program during production without the need for reorientation, recalibration routines, or manual program changes that would halt production and add to tool wear. This automated tool position-detection system prevents customers from having rejects or being forced to rework due to tool wear, inadvertent contact with nearby objects and tool changeover.
The measurement system is connected directly to the robot or control system via a compact electronic evaluation unit that independently carries out the measurement using integrated algorithms and microprocessors. The TCP-3D uses its own position-sensing capability rather than information from the robot controller, reducing the chances of introducing error into the robot program.
The TCP-3D comes with quick-fitting installation hardware and straightforward commissioning routines. Measurement data is continually logged for engineering review without the need for an external PC. Areas of application for advintec TCP-3D include electric arc welding and soldering, spot welding, laser welding, laser brazing and cutting, stud welding and punch riveting, gluing and milling.
Both the sensor and electronic evaluation unit conform to a CE-compliant IP67 protection rating and are consequently well suited to tough ambient conditions. The operating voltage is 10-34 V dc; internal power consumption is less than 200 mA. The system is hooked up via standard IBS connector, 5-pin.
