Belden: Hirschmann Mach 1040 Gigabit Ethernet Switch for high network availability, safety
Belden: new Hirschmann Mach1040 Gigabit Ethernet Switch delivers high network availability and operational safety.
Belden (NYSE: BDC) introduces the new Hirschmann Mach 1040 Gigabit Ethernet Switch for high network availability and operational safety. The Mach 1040 Gigabit Ethernet Switch is a 19-in. rack-mount Layer-2 switch with either 16 front or rear-facing Gigabit Ethernet RJ45/SFP combo ports (the Small-Form factor Pluggable ports support 100 mbps and Gigabit transceivers).
The rear-facing option provides a cleaner look and restricts unauthorized access to the cabling and all ports support version 2 of Precision Time Protocol (IEEE 1588 version 2) while 4 of the 16 ports are available with Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af). Software is currently under development to enable this switch to be used as a router.
The RJ45/SFP combo ports facilitate the flexible implementation of high-speed data networks without additional investment or costs for future retrofits or extensions, Belden says. Designed for assembly in 19-in. cabinets, the Mach 1040 uses the latest energy-saving chip technology, providing an extremely low thermal footprint despite being fan-less. Its rugged metal housing measures 448 by 44 by 310 mm (width, height and depth). Boot time is only 10 seconds. By connecting an ACA 21-USB auto-configuration adapter to its USB port, all configuration data and operating system can be saved and recalled at any time without tools or a PC - even onto a replacement switch.
Dual fault alarm contacts are available for detecting the status of the switch and detailed information can be displayed by means of a standard web browser. Additional management functions include Command Line Interface, Management Information Base, Telnet, HTTP, TFTP as well as SFP Management. In addition, an SNMP interface permits the use of network management software, such as HiVision and HiDiscovery.
Media redundancy capabilities, such as Fast Hiper Ring, MRP (IEC ring function), Trunking, Link Aggregation and Rapid Spanning Tree, provide for high network availability. Security mechanisms include access control according to IEEE 802.1x, IP and MAC port security as well as SNMP V3 und SSH.
Additional characteristics include an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +70 °C, high resistance to shock, vibration electrical discharge and magnetic fields. Passive, fan-less cooling and optional redundant power supplies are added to ensure high operational safety. The Mach 1040 Gigabit Ethernet switch meets the standards and approval requirements of IEC 61850, IEEE 1613, EN 50121-4, EN 50155, cUL 508, cUL 1604 C1 Div2 and GL making it ideal for use in power generation and electrical power distribution application.
