David A. Harvey, former Control Engineering publisher, died Sept. 22, 2010, at 54 years of age. He began with Technical Publishing in 1980 and worked for Electric Light & Power magazine and then Control Engineering magazine, in sales. After Control Engineering was sold to Cahners Publishing Co., Harvey succeeded long-time publisher and vice president Tom Barry, who died in October 1993.

Areas of Control Engineering growth during Harvey’s tenure included multiple international editions, web site launch in 1996, start of email newsletters and webcasts, acquisition of IAN magazine, online directories, and expansion of International Control Engineering Expo (ICEE), which eventually became part of National Manufacturing Week.

He was well-known for love of family and friends, humor, outgoing nature, appreciation of sports, and fondness for a good meal. Harvey left Control Engineering, then part of Reed Business Information, in 2003. Control Engineering and CFE Media, which also publishes Plant Engineering and Consulting-Specifying Engineer, extend sympathies to the Harvey family.
