Ethernet TCP vs UDP

Part 13 of the Industrial Networking: Serial to Ethernet training series

The operating system broadcasts an ARP message asking for each device’s MAC address because only the IP address is given.  Ethernet networks use a CSMA/CD protocol where devices wait to send information until others have stopped; this problem is resolved when using a switch over a hub.

Long-time automation trainer Doug Bell, Interconnecting Automation, covers the basics of Industrial Networking with AutomationDirect’s Chris Harris. This video is produced by CFE Media to be noncommercial and educational. Runtime is approximately 8 minutes.
