SILAlarm is a new alarm rationalization tool from exida, a supplier of functional safety and security products, services, and certifications. The company says SILAlarm supports compliance with the ISA18.2 alarm management standard and good engineering practices, and guides users through the alarm rationalization process tailored to reflect the requirements of a company’s alarm philosophy document. It serves as the master alarm database, recording the results of the alarm design (priority, limit, deadband, classification, and suppression) as well the cause, consequence, time to respond and recommended operator response.

“Alarm rationalization is one of the key activities in ISA18.2’s alarm management lifecycle and is critical to create a sustainable and effective alarm management program,” said Todd Stauffer, exida’s director of alarm management services. “In the past, companies considered rationalization too burdensome and expensive. Today, SILAlarm easily and economically reduces alarm loads on the operator, eliminates nuisance alarms, and improves operator response.”

SILAlarm can be used with new and existing systems and is available standalone as well as integrated with exSILentia, exida’s suite of functional safety engineering tools.
