The CTEU / CTEL is a fieldbus installation system used for networking valve terminals and inputs to a controller. This is a Control Engineering 2013 Engineers' Choice finalist. The CTEU/CTEL system uses IO-Link technology in a way that gives customers many cost effective options. Festo introduces an additional application layer called I-Port. This allows Festo to combine a variety of fieldbus nodes, valve terminals, and input blocks, with automatic configuration. The result for the customer  is simple "Plug and Work" technology at a similar cost as using multipin cables.

In addition, diagnostics are provided for faster troubleshooting, and much less time is needed for installation. The same valve terminals can be used as standard IO-Link modules, giving customers greater flexibility. If a multipin cable installation makes sense, the system allows for easy change-over.
