The new NI Single-Board RIO-9606 device from National Instruments provides a small and cost-optimized form factor for the NI RIO platform and is ideal for embedded monitoring and control applications in industries such as energy and medical. For high-volume and OEM applications, the new NI sbRIO-9606 device is sized from less than 102.87 mm x 96.52 mm and offers greater customization and I/O support than previous versions. The device features a 400 MHz real-time processor and Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA to provide reliability and performance at a low price point for OEMs. The device also offers built-in peripherals such as RS232, CAN, USB, and Ethernet. In addition to the peripherals, the system includes 96 FPGA digital I/O lines that are accessed through the RIO Mezzanine Card connector, which is a high-density, high-bandwidth connector that allows for direct access to the FPGA and processor.

With the new high-bandwidth connector on these NI Single-Board RIO devices and LabVIEW programming tools, engineers can now take their simulations and advanced algorithms from prototype to high-volume, deployable targets more quickly than ever. Instead of spending a significant amount of time designing the FPGA and processor subsystem in device built from scratch, engineers can use the standard FPGA and real-time processor technology in NI sbRIO-9606 and focus on creating the specialized I/O required for a specific application on a RIO Mezzanine Card, significantly decreasing development cost time and delivering a fast time-to-market. In addition to the hardware development time savings, NI Single-Board RIO also simplifies the software development with NI LabVIEW FPGA, which allows engineers to quickly program FPGAs with no need for low-level programming language knowledge, such as VHDL. The NI sbRIO-9606 is designed to be easily embedded in high-volume applications that require flexibility, reliability, and high performance. NI CompactRIO systems are ideal for low- to medium-volume applications and rapid prototyping.
