Need to understand how a switching power supply works? This book seems to serve appropriately. ''Demystifying Switching Power Supplies,'' by Raymond A. Mack Jr., ISBN 0750674458, Newness, an imprint of Elsevier Science (2005), covers the basics of switching power supplies, starting with a brief comparison of linear and switching supplies. Mack says the book aims to help readers specify a custom off-line supply from power-supply manufacturers and tells how to design a dc-dc converter. There’s enough analog design information included for those whose primary electronics background doesn’t include much about analog circuits, he says in the preface.

Topics covered include circuits, input power supply, selection of passive components, semiconductors, inductors, and transformers. A sine-wave inverter design example is given, along with a PC off-line supply. It has a detailed index, and more than 320 total pages.
