James P. Begley, PE, LEED AP, 38 James P. Begley

Principal, TERPconsulting, Las Vegas

University of Maryland College Park,
BS Fire Protection Engineering;
Worcester Polytechnic Institute,
MS Fire Protection Engineering

With almost 20 years of experience in fire protection engineering, Begley founded TERPconsulting after losing his job amidst the recent economic downturn. Earning credentials, working hard, and persevering, even when times were tough, allowed him to achieve his goal: establishing his own fire protection engineering/code consulting firm in 2010. Both clients and employees from his past followed him, including several from Schirmer Engineering Corp. and JBA Consulting Engineers. He also has a following as a food writer for multiple Las Vegas publications, specializing in hole-in-the-wall joints that make for great party stories. His weekly and monthly food columns have led him and his fans to explore new restaurants and neighborhoods that might otherwise go unvisited. The greatest aspect of Begley’s engineering and consulting life is the opportunity to build while bettering his staff. He strives to surround himself with talented people whom he feels lucky to lead. Begley believes it is essential to contribute and further his profession and has always been supportive of his staff’s involvement in activities outside of the office. His personal volunteering efforts include involvement with the Junior League of Las Vegas in support of his wife. He currently assists Heaven Can Wait Animal Society in its efforts to control animal overpopulation and find good homes for pets, which he finds especially fulfilling because the animals are unable to help themselves.
