3-D CAD software cuts product design time 80%

Ishida Europe will use SolidWorks 3-D CAD software to streamline design time for machinery used to automatically weigh and pack all kinds of food, from cereal to seafood. The U.K.-based company plans to reduce custom machine configuration time 80% using SolidWorks' automated design and advanced sheet metal capabilities.

Ishida Europe is the European commercial and manufacturing arm of Ishida Co. Ltd., a Japan-based developer of weighing and packaging machinery. The parent company had largely been using static 2-D software in its operations around the world before gradually making the switch to SolidWorks. The company has purchased 40 SolidWorks licenses, and expects to grow that number to further increase product development efficiency.

Ishida's machines are large, complex, and highly customized. The company would spend up to five days designing custom parts in 2-D software to meet customers' requirements. That time will be cut to less than a day using SolidWorks' smart table-driven design features. By plugging in specifications for different features, engineers can quickly configure machines to handle the type of food each customer packages and ensure an accurate design before manufacturing starts.

Ongoing software training, implementation, and support are provided by Solid Solutions Management , an authorized SolidWorks reseller.
