4-in-1: Universal analog input module

By Control Engineering Staff October 27, 2005

“Four modules in one” functionality for the GE Fanuc PACSystems RX3i Universal Analog Input module is said to significantly simplify wiring and configuration, and reduce troubleshooting time.

PACSystems RX3i Universal Analog Input module, from GE Fanuc Automation Americas Inc. , offers functionality of four modules in one, reducing I/O module space requirements, decreasing the number of spare parts and inventory, and simplifying wiring and configuration for OEMs or end-users. It’s the first I/O module taking advantage of the high-speed RX3i PCI-bus, providing fast data throughput for higher productivity, the company says. It can easily be configured, on a per channel basis for thermocouple, strain gage, RTD, voltage, or current.

It provides up to 30 types of analog input configurations. Channels can be individually configured, using PACSystems’ RX3i Programming Software—Proficy Machine Edition, for up to eight channels of voltage, current, thermocouple, RTD, and resistance inputs in two isolated groups of four. Module features include: completely software-configurable using standard programmer; no module jumpers to set, reducing set-up time; six filter frequencies, individually-selectable by channel for flexible application needs; rapid channel acquisition times based on filter frequency; full auto-calibration; on-board error-checking; module hot-swap support; open-circuit detection for most input types; short-circuit detection for RTDs; resolution at 24-bit ADC converted to floating point or integer; scaling in engineering units; alarms and rate of change alarms; configurable CPU interrupts; flash memory, for future upgrades; module status; field status; and LEDs.
