Hannover, Germany – This year’s edition of the ‘ world’s largest industrial fair ‘ will consist of seven individual trade shows, with Factory Automation continuing in the centerpiece role. MicroTechnology, CeMAT, SurfaceTechnology, Energy, SubconTechnology, and Research & Technology comprise the other shows in the lineup. The event is all set to come together for a six-day run, April 15-20, 2002, at the Hannover Fairgrounds.

Around 7,000 exhibitors from 60 nations are expected to occupy 250,000 sq. m (2,690,000 sq. ft!) of display space. And quality of exhibits will go hand-in-hand with quantity, as Hannover Fair 2002 gears up ‘to showcase the technologies required to meet global market demands of today and tomorrow,’ according to fair organizer Deutsche Messe AG (DMAG, Hannover).

Factory Automation (1,900 exhibitors) will show the latest array of technologies from assembly and handling equipment and industrial robots to communication devices and image processing systems. MicroTechnology (350 exhibitors) focuses its displays on the miniaturized world of microsystems including MEMS ultra-precise manufacturing, and laser technologies. CeMAT (World Fair for Materials Handling and Logistics, approx. 1,000 exhibitors), will offer exhibits ranging from automated warehousing systems to sophisticated supply-chain management solutions. SurfaceTechnology presents a spectrum of the latest surface treatment and coating proc-esses available for industrial and commercial products, including optical and medical equipment.

Energy technology (860 exhibitors) will bring together components and systems that enable the ‘the right mix’ of energy generation, transport, distribution, applications. SubconTechnology is the venue for the subcontracting sector that targets outsourcing, total quality management, and methods that shorten production cycles. Research & Technology brings together around 600 ex-hibitors, providing contacts with universities and research/high-tech organizations to help commercialize new technologies ready to enter industrial applications.

To round out the fair, a program of special presentations, technology forums, and seminars will be an integral part of each trade show sector. A ‘Career Market,’ targeted at the employment market, and a ‘Global Business Forum’ that promotes international trade should have an appeal to visitors in all show sectors.
