Adept software includes OCR and Data Matrix tools

San Jose, Calif. – Adept Technology Inc. announced May 2 the release of Adept HexSight 3.1 vision software, with improved performance and an expanded software toolbox. The geometric locator tool in the new version of the software runs up to twice as fast and at half the memory as the previous version and now includes support for OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and Data Matrix and bar code reading. The software now also supports cameras based on the IEEE 1394 protocol (Firewire), eliminating the need for frame grabbers.

“Our customers gave us clear feedback that OCR and Data Matrix vision tools and higher throughput would help them reduce their engineering and product costs,” noted Joe Campbell, vice president of marketing for Adept Technology. ” And FireWire cameras simplify a system even further, removing the frame grabber configuration.”

Adept HexSight vision software is an open system product that runs on a PC and uses off-the-shelf cameras and frame grabbers. Based on geometric characteristics, its locator tool can accurately find objects and discriminate between parts even in complex images with adverse lighting environments. This tool uses Adept Geometric Object Location, a feature detection technology, to identify objects and patterns. This results in automatic parts identification and verification with outstanding robustness to clutter, lighting variations, image degradations, and occlusions.
