Pepperl+Fuchs’ long-range F192 reader is designed for reading tags at distances of more than 15 ft. The output power is adjustable to as low as 10 mW, so the F192 works equally well for short-read ranges. Its power adjustability feature is useful for operators who want to read a specific RFID tag. The F192 is a completely self-contained reader, with the antenna, amplifier, and reading electronics all in one. The advantage of this design is the absence of commercial-style coaxial cables. Coaxial cables typically allow no more than 30-ft. back to the main control system, and even then there may be voltage losses in the cable, resulting in poor read performance. The F192 uses industrial M12 connection cables, which allow operators to run more than 3200 ft. back to the main control system with no reader performance degradation. Its robust housing makes the F192 ideal for harsh industrial environments and can be used in ambient temperatures of up to 158 F.
