Advance-warning system reduces machine failure

Lisle, Ill. -Patented SmartSignal ECM technology improves analysis of existing sensor data, which provides a quantum leap in early detection of abnormal machine behavior. Advanced data interpretation detects faults before failure or damage. The system allows remote monitoring via the Internet and can be embedded in microprocessors. Software monitors equipment sensors and detects subtle deviations from normal operation, for 'need-based' maintenance. SmartSignal

Added information
In a 1996 competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Babcock & Wilcox Owners Group, and Florida Power Corp., 10 problems were seeded into real data. More than 3,000 sensor values gathered in 18 months from Florida Power's Crystal River nuclear power plant. Of all the competitors, SmartSignal says, this was the only technology to find all 10 seeded faults. More surprising was that the technology also found four faults previously undetected by the plant or competition organizers.
