Advanced manufacturing facility opens in Florida

GE opened its $60 million Capacitor and Instrument Transformer Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Clearwater, Fla, which will use digital technology and the Industrial Internet to improve efficiency and production.

General Electric (GE) opened its $60 million Capacitor and Instrument Transformer Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Clearwater, Fla, which will use digital technology and the Industrial Internet to improve efficiency and production. Courtesy: General EleGE (NYSE: GE) opened its $60 million Capacitor and Instrument Transformer Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Clearwater, Fla. GE's 190,000-sq-ft building is an expansion of its 40-year old instrument transformer facility and will produce instrument transformers and capacitors. The factory opening is expected to create 275 new jobs in the Tampa Bay region.

With the Clearwater factory, GE is meeting growing global demand with a 35% increase in capacity and a 50% reduction in manufacturing cycle time. The facility will use GE Predix Edge software for all of their Industrial Internet applications. The technology will also use real-time data from the site's sensor-enabled manufacturing equipment to predict outcomes and optimize the process. This includes design engineering feedback loops to enhance product quality and performance, plant efficiency and timely delivery to customers.

The Clearwater facility will also provide predictive and prescriptive analytics and actionable insights that will be transferable across all of GE's global manufacturing facilities to increase operational and supply chain efficiency.
