Shanghai, China —China's National Space Organization launched its first lunar probe on Oct. 25 , taking its first step in a planned 10-year space program. This same week, Taiwan-based

Advantech

held its World Partner Conference here to highlight the "rapid development and tremendous advances" of the country, said VP of channel marketing and development, Chaney Ho.

More than 400 attendees from 35 countries—including Control Engineering editors from North America, Asia and China editions—attended the event, which laid out a strategy for transforming Advantech into a globally integrated enterprise (GIE).

Since 1995, Adantech has evolved from a Taiwan export company to a multinational company with more than 15 regional business units. In China alone, the company has 24 offices, 5 research and development (R&D) centers, 3 manufacturing centers and more than 100 partners covering 33 cities. Ho urged the distributors, system integrators, and others in attendance to "enjoy the strong economic opportunity in China with Advantech....This is also our wish, that we'll become the greatest ePlatform provider in the world."

This $450 million dollar (sales per year) company could do it. It's almost 8,000 products include industrial computers, rugged switches, human machine interfaces (HMIs), process automation controllers (PACs), input / output (I/O) devices, embedded computers and motherboards, as well as “design to order” and “configure to order” services for industrial equipment and machine control.

Recent datacomm or industrial networking product announcements include:

- An Ethernet switch with Advantech's X-ring technology, which delivers under 10 ms recovery time;
- Unmanaged switches with Gigabit connections to support machine vision and video surveillance applications; and
- Serial device servers, which enable up to five connections to one serial port.
