A new software tool that estimates energy savings and simple payback possible from installing an adjustable-speed drive (ASD) on a fan or pump has recently been posted on the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) Web site. “ASD Calculator” is an Excel-based software program described as an easy-to-use tool.

ASD Calculator gives users two options: Input minimal data to arrive at a “ballpark” estimate of energy savings or input actual power (kW) measurements to arrive at a more accurate estimate, according to Christopher B. Milan, PE, CEM, mechanical & civil engineer at BPA. You can check it out by clicking here and downloading the calculator from BPA’s Energy Efficiency Web .

“[However], final economic decisions should be based upon results from more extensive analysis tools, such as ASDMaster,” adds Milan. Click here to access this tool .
