Courtesy: ASPE, CIPHThe American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) and the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) have signed a memorandum of understanding designed to establish a framework for cooperation that will enable the exchange of information regarding the American and Canadian plumbing products and systems industries. The agreement, which was signed by ASPE Executive Director/CEO Jim Kendzel, MPH, CAE, and CIPH President Ralph Suppa on April 24, 2012, will provide ways for the two organizations to share data on common educational, technical, scientific, legislative, and regulatory matters.

Due to the increased globalization of the construction industry, ASPE and CIPH recognize the need to provide their respective memberships with access to timely data and technical advancements to succeed in the international market. “Both ASPE and CIPH are devoted to helping provide information on the safe design and installation of plumbing systems and products, and this MOU will improve our ability to do that,” says Kendzel. “Our members now will be able to tap into the expertise of thousands of plumbing industry professionals across North America to produce innovative systems that conserve water and protect the public’s health.”

Suppa says, “Our organizations focus their missions on disseminating educational, scientific, and technical information and expertise to our members to enhance the acceptance of plumbing products and the quality design of plumbing systems, with the principal goal of providing and expanding opportunities for consumers to have safe, efficient, and affordable plumbing products. This MOU will facilitate these worthwhile activities on a more global basis.”

In implementing the agreement, ASPE and CIPH will work cooperatively to exchange information on pertinent issues via publications, reports, association conferences, and industry meetings as well as promote educational opportunities for their members to learn about technological advancements in the design and manufacture of plumbing products and systems.
