Automaker to invest $100 million in plant
BMW plans to invest another $100 million in its Spartanburg County plant with intent to focus on export operations and the X3 SKD program.
German automaker BMW plans to invest an additional $100 million in the 4 million sq-ft facility this year, according to GoUpstate.com.
The funds will reportedly be used to streamline its export operation from the plant and launch its new X3 Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) program. Under the SKD program, the company will ship 4,000 painted X3 body shells for assembly in emerging markets worldwide.
The plant, which is the production hub for BMW's X model Sports Activity Vehicles, is also expected to increase output by 51% this year to 240,000 vehicles.
