Saelig’s PIE 525B Automated RTD and Thermocouple Calibrator is an industrial temperature sensor calibrator that accommodates resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) and thermocouples. In addition to registering actual temperature, the PIE 525B shows the resistance value when displaying RTD temperature. It also features automatic detection of 2-, 3- or 4-wire RTD connections and also detects when individual wire connections are open circuit. Inputs are protected up to ±60Vdc against possible misconnection. Standard functions include sourcing and reading of 14 thermocouple types, 12 RTD curves, millivolts and resistance. Additional features include the ability to turn cold junction compensation on and off, cold junction temperature display, and a secondary display showing corresponding mV/Ohm temperature values.

The troubleshooting features of the PIE 525B include the ability to read and display an RTD transmitter’s excitation current (pulsed or fixed) to confirm that the transmitter is operating correctly. The 525B is compatible with all process instruments and connects directly to the temperature inputs of transmitters, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and multichannel recorders to verify their outputs or displays. The RTD simulation function works with older instruments with fixed excitation currents as well as newer multichannel instruments that switch the excitation current between input channels.
