, announced on Feb. 17 that it added Autoware as its newest business unit. Autoware, founded in 1996, has offices in Vicenza, Italy.
Vertical markets that Autoware serves include food and beverage, metals, automotive, and chemical, AAG says, and clients include Pasta Zara, Electrolux, Heineken, Zuegg, Nestle, Elledì, Neubor Glass, and AGC. The company provides automation services including manufacturing execution systems (MES), motion and machine vision solutions.
Autoware is a Strategic Wonderware Partner and significantly extends AAG resources and capabilities in Europe. Luigi De Bernardini, CEO of Autoware, says, “Autoware becomes AAG’s key resource base and leader for Europe.” De Bernardini adds that he looks forward to additional growth in a competitive worldwide market.
Alliance history, purpose, projects
AAG describes itself as a global control systems integrator providing process control systems, MES, and automation consulting for manufacturing vertical markets, water and wastewater treatment facilities and other applications. Services include studies, master plans, designs, integration and provision of the systems, validation and design / build of control and electrical systems. See .
AAG CEO Dan Amsden told Control Engineering at the 2008 CSIA conference that one of his roles has been to integrate the integrator companies in the alliance and consolidate resources so they could pursue larger projects together than any individual member company could handle on its own. The alliance tries to increase business for its individual members, and for AAG, Amsden says. Each of its 30 offices uses the CSIA ’s Best Practices and Benchmarks or their own enhanced versions of the same.
Cooperative projects include a large process-industry project producing starch and generating ethanol from biomass, involving three member businesses– one handling power applications, another handling electrical applications, and the third handling MES applications. The project is expected to take 3.5 years from start to finish.

Other member companies include Applied Control Technology, Bay-Tec Engineering, Frakes Engineering, Revere Control Systems, Total Systems Design, and Stone Technologies. AAG’s Asian “affiliate,” a division of Total Systems Design called TSD-CAN, is headquartered in Singapore.
Though still part of AAG, Total Systems Design Inc. was acquired by Optimation late last year.
