Chicago, IL— B&R reported at a recent press conference that more than more than 20,000 Ethernet Powerlink nodes have been successfully deployed in series machines and embedded systems during the past two years. Those nodes are running reliably in harsh environments worldwide, including injection molding or packaging machines. Typical installations consist of 1-50 axes with controllers, and up to a few thousand I/O points running with 200

B&R states that its Ethernet Powerlink technology is presently the only efficient method available for guaranteeing real-time deterministic data transfer via standard Ethernet networks and components. The company has spent several years developing a variety of Ethernet Powerlink-based products, which are currently available worldwide. B&R adds this means that true real-time requirements in the

Up to 240 nodes, such as drives, controllers, I/O, sensors and other devices, can communicate peer-to-peer on one Ethernet Powerlink network. Ethernet Powerlink is based on standard a Ethernet chipset, which allows users to select from multiple vendors. In addition, there is only a short step to Gigabit-level Ethernet for Ethernet Powerlink, since its technology is purely based on a software stack.
