Batch control standard focuses on data from multiple systems

Define production records in detail with the latest in a series of batch control standards from ISA, the Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society . ISA-88.00.04-2006, Batch Control Part 4: Batch Production Records, establishes a reference model for developing applications for the storage and/or exchange of batch production records. Implementations based on the standard will allow retrieval, analysis, and reporting of selected batch production record data.

"The new Part 4 standard addresses the major problem of managing production information from multiple control systems," says ISA-SP88 Chairman Dennis Brandl of BR&L Consulting. "It defines a structure for preserving production information in a vendor-independent manner, and was designed to meet regulatory requirements related to data collection and retention. The planned XML implementation of the standard will provide vendors and end users a valuable method for long-term retention of searchable production information."

The new standard is intended for batch processes and may be applied to other types of processes, Brandl adds. This release is the fourth in the ISA Batch Control Standards series, which also includes:

  • ANSI/ISA-88-01-1995, Batch Control Part 1: Models and terminology;

  • ANSI/ISA-88.00.02-2001, Batch Control Part 2: Data structures and guidelines for languages; and

  • ANSI/ISA-88.00.03-2003, Batch Control Part 3: General and site recipe models and representation.
