Batch processing outpacing other process controls

Batch processing worldwide is growing 5-6% annually compared to 3-4% for other process control segments, reported Asish Ghosh, ARC Advisory Group (Dedham, Mass.), during his keynote speech at the World Batch Forum (WBF), April 11-14.More than 200 WBF members from around the world gathered to share experiences and best practices in batch processing techniques.

Batch processing worldwide is growing 5-6% annually compared to 3-4% for other process control segments, reported Asish Ghosh, ARC Advisory Group (Dedham, Mass.), during his keynote speech at the World Batch Forum (WBF), April 11-14.

More than 200 WBF members from around the world gathered to share experiences and best practices in batch processing techniques. Presentations included application case histories, exception handling and design, supply chain management and enterprise integration, and automation validation.

Mr. Ghosh adds that interest in batch processing is growing because of:

  • Need for agile manufacturing facilities to meet changing market demands and make-to-order customer requirements;

  • Declining cost of hardware and software solutions;

  • Wide acceptance and use of international standards for defining and implementing batch control and automation solutions; and

  • Increasing desire to achieve enterprise integration of business and manufacturing data into real-time enterprise information.
