Baumuller’s new line of servo drives meets coming specs

Most drive manufacturers have their eyes on a new machinery standard set to go into effect on 29 Dec. 2009, and Baumuller, among others, is introducing products that conform to these new specifications. In particular, Baumuller’s new generation b maXX 5000 servo drives meets the new specs, and were developed in order to meet coming worldwide requirements for automation technology. So says Baumuller’s Marcus Finkbeiner, who was at the SPS/IPC/Drives show in Nuremburg, Germany last fall to present the new servo series.
The new drives line is considered an expansion of the company’s b maXX 4000 series. With a power range of 1 to 35 kW and integrated safety functions, the drives come in various cooling versions and support regenerative applications. Mr. Finkbeiner says Baumuller has taken new approaches with the b maXX power module. These converters offer a power range of between 1 kW and 35 kW, as well as safety functions.
The internal serial communication between drive controller and power unit also significantly improves its diagnostic capability, Finkbeiner says. The integrated line voltage measurement ensures operation in different networks throughout the world. This new addition to the Baumüller converter series supports Ethernet and can be used as an energy efficient drive system worldwide due to its rectifier and regenerative systems, he adds.
The b maXX converters come with different cooling versions. Air cooling and cold plate versions are available, depending on the application. This guarantees efficient temperature management.
