JDA Software launches local support and service center in China, positioning for "substantial growth in the region." To meet local demand for anti-counterfeiting and channel integrity software, New Momentum, also started operations in China, the companies said in independent announcements.

JDA adds to workforce in China

JDA Software Group Inc. announced June 2 that it is "significantly expanding its investment in China with additional resources and the launch of a new local support and services center to meet growing demand from local manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers for best-of-breed integrated supply chain and merchandising solutions."

AMR Research Inc. says Chinese consumers are enjoying growth in wealth that is three to five times faster than developed countries have experienced over the past 50 years. With increasing manufacturing capabilities, China has established a formidable capability to supply consumer products globally and retail them locally, JDA says. The further development of this industry demands supply chain efficiencies to provide the necessary capabilities to sustain long term growth.

JDA has recognized the huge manufacturing and retail industry that has been established in China over the past decades, areas that now seek advanced supply chain optimization and merchandising systems globally. JDA will quadruple the number of Chinese nationals available to serve existing and future customers in China with support, consulting, and sales over the next two years. JDA also is opening a new support center in Shanghai with solution experts in retail and supply chain management to offer workshops on global best practices and other educational opportunities to local businesses.

More anti-counterfeiting, channel integrity software in China

Leading provider of anti-counterfeiting and channel integrity software, New Momentum, has now begun operations in China, the company announced June 3. After New Momentum presented to more than 130 global organizations at the Quality Brands Protection Committee (QBPC) meeting in March, high demand for the company’s software solutions in this region resulted in the decision to set up sales and management operations in China. The country manager, Jacky Zhang, is located in Beijing.

Impact of counterfeits

"With counterfeit and gray market activity expected to reach $1.2 trillion this year, many global organizations have set up brand protection teams in China, South America and Eastern Europe," says Stu Clifton, New Momentum CEO. "We believe we can best provide these worldwide teams with the most responsive service by having local sales and management. As we saw at the QBPC meeting, the Chinese government is focused on reducing the amount of counterfeit products originating in China. We applaud these efforts and expect that our brand protection solution will play a key role in helping reduce the impact of global counterfeit and gray market sales.

"Our customers, who have lost billions of dollars to counterfeits and the gray market every year, are reporting that our product is helping them reduce the amount of non-genuine product on the market and recover lost revenues. In addition, use of New Momentum has enabled these same clients to increase staff productivity and reduce overall brand protection costs-particularly the cost of test buys."

New Momentum’s Enterprise Brand Intelligence solution, which is based on an advanced web-mining technology, gives high tech, pharmaceutical and luxury goods manufacturers greater visibility into global Internet activity on a dynamic 24/7 basis. Custom dashboards, email alerts and management reporting keep the brand security group apprised of new potential counterfeit activity. Manufacturers can find suspects and counterfeiting networks; locate and prioritize the largest offenders; and better model analytics to identify trends. Customers pay monthly subscription fees for this SaaS (Software as a Service). New Momentum also helps with the operational practices, such as investigations and enforcement, through its collaborative partner program.
