Cognex adds capabilities for pharmaceutical industry
Natick, Mass. - Cognex Corp.'s In-Sight vision sensors now have the ability to read and verify RSS (Reduced Space Symbology) codes on pharmaceutical packages for the purposes of product identification and traceability. RSS codes are space-efficient, linear bar codes that are used to mark small "unit-of-use" products that cannot be marked with UPC or standard bar codes, such as individual medicine doses and blister-packed tablets.
Natick, Mass. – Cognex Corp.’s In-Sight vision sensors now have the ability to read and verify RSS (Reduced Space Symbology) codes on pharmaceutical packages for the purposes of product identification and traceability. RSS codes are space-efficient, linear bar codes that are used to mark small “unit-of-use” products that cannot be marked with UPC or standard bar codes, such as individual medicine doses and blister-packed tablets.
Other capabilities of In-Sight vision sensors include optical character verification, 2D code reading, blister pack inspection, and label and safety seal inspection. Each sensor provides vision software tools, a vision spreadsheet interface for application set-up, and built-in Ethernet communications. To facilitate compliance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s 21 CFR Part 11 regulations, the company has authored and published detailed Application Guidelines that provide recommendations for developing 21 CFR Part 11-compliant automation projects which incorporate machine vision technology.
