Tough, compact equipment is a must for rugged embedded applications. Aaeon Electronics Inc . has recently introduced its AEC-6810 Embedded Control PC, said to be a multi-function, high-performance industrial controller with features superior to similar industrial PCs, yet compact in size. Testing in a documented long-term vibration and shock environment has verified AEC-6810’s robustness. Its 2.5-in. hard drive, installed with an optional shock mounting kit, can withstand high-frequency vibrations, says Aaeon.

The controller PC supports various operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows CE .Net 4.2, XP Embedded, and commercial versions of Windows OS family. Compact AEC-6810 has four serial ports, four USB 1.1 ports, and a 10/100 Ethernet port for typical industrial automation needs, as well as audio and video outputs (AC97 and TV) to allow system integrators more creativity to fulfill application requirements. Transportation, building automation, and networking are among other target applications.

Other key AEC-6810 features for harsh application environments include:

Fanless system;

Onboard VIA Eden 667 MHz processor;

9-30 V dc power input (optional external ac adapter);

LED indicators for power and hard-drive activity; and

CompactFlash Type II socket with a positive-locking mechanism.

RAM, CompactFlash, and optional modules are not included. Pricing for this embedded control PC starts around $530 in low quantities.
