Congressmen promote national manufacturing strategy

U.S. Rep. Tim Holden, who represents Dauphin and Lebanon counties, and Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland visited ArcelorMittal's steel factory yesterday in Steelton to promote bills for a national manufacturing strategy, according to the company.
The National Manufacturing Strategy Act was introduced and passed last year in the U.S. House, according to a Democratic blog. The legislation would require the Commerce Department to review the manufacturing sector and develop short- and long-term goals to bolster domestic manufacturing through policy and industry initiatives. The bill still needs approval from the U.S. Senate.
Luxembourg-based ArcelorMittal's midstate plant makes rails for the railroad industry.
Democrats Holden and Stoyer also held a manufacturing roundtable discussion yesterday at the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and Capital Region Economic Development Corp. offices on Front Street.
