Control Engineering career assistance
Think again about career relevancy: Control Engineering’s purpose is to help subscribers and others in our global audience to do their jobs better and accelerate their careers; CFE Media and CFE Technology help. (CFE stands for Content for Engineers.) See resources for automation, controls, and instrumentation.
Control Engineering helps those with interests in automation, controls, and instrumentation to be more effective in the workplace and stay relevant in and accelerate their careers.
Control Engineering coverage includes print, digital editions (with exclusive content beyond the print edition), online (with more content than will fit in print and articles, often with more detail and images), topical newsletters, webcasts, targeted digital reports, five international editions, social media, and Editorial Advisory Board contributions.
This content is supplemented by CFE Media resources, including Consulting-Specifying Engineer, Plant Engineering, IIoT for Engineers, Oil & Gas Engineering, CFE Media Research, and Marketing to Engineers, and by CFE Technology platforms, including Global System Integrator Database, New Products for Engineers Database, CFE Edu educational platform, Content Partner program, and ContentStream products.
Because of targeted Control Engineering coverage, surveys show our audience appreciates advertising as much as editorial coverage. While a special advertising section in this issue focuses on education, recent educational efforts are worthy of mention.
If that seems like a lot, it is; CFE Media moved to larger headquarters in Downers Grove, Ill., in July.
Technology training, inspiration
Five automated manufacturing technology educational modules by Festo Didactic help teach those interested in automation and motion control. Nature-inspired motion control demonstrations from Festo Bionic Learning Network, often mechatronic robotic or remote-controlled animals, offer engineering inspiration for science, technology, engineering, and math careers. Knowledge transfer to and from both of these helps Festo innovate present and future motion control offerings.
The Festo Motion Terminal, introduced at Hannover Fair 2017, brings advanced control, software apps, and variable pneumatic valves adapted from Festo Bionic ants to replace 50 hardware combinations in one unit. See video to learn more.
Soft stop, proportional-integral-derivative (PID), and robotic control capabilities were demonstrated at the Festo International Press Conference in July. See video to learn more.
Process education centers
Ten process education centers at Endress+Hauser facilities provide training sessions for process control engineers and technicians, while demonstrating capabilities of products from Endress+Hauser and its partners. At its Process Training Unit in Greenwood, Ind., Endress+Hauser’s expanding U.S. headquarters, 120 measurements can be taken at the two-story atrium-styled facility, with an adjacent control room that most engineers would welcome as part of their workplace. See additional explanations and photos (below, in this online version).
Training: PLC programming
Part 2 of the 5-part programmable logic controller (PLC) training series at CFE Edu began in July, covering how the PLC CPU works, PLC scanning, addressing, and different PLC programming methods. Help others think again if they believe engineering education ends when university, college, or trade school degrees arrive. Those with engineering responsibilities learn daily.
