In a market overview released at its recent annual meeting, the Control System Integrator Association (CSIA, Exton, Pa.) reported that its 142 member companies earned total revenue of nearly $0.9 billion in 2001. These earnings were split roughly 60-40 between value-added services and pass-through product sales.

"The total membership grew by 16 integrators or 15% from 2000 to 2001, while revenue was only up 3%. I would assume this is because of the poor economic climate last year," says Bill Pollock, CSIA's statistics committee chairman.

Nonetheless, the combined sales figure represent nearly 13% of the total worldwide gross revenues for system integration companies, which CSIA estimates is approximately $12 billion per year. For a more detailed market analysis, read "The Market for Control System Integrators," a white paper published by CSIA, which is available at its web site at www.controlsys.org .

In other news, CSIA also recently announced the latest additions to its role of "Registered Members," who have successfully passed CSIA's audit of professional business practices [see "Integrator Registration Aims to Promote Excellence," CE, April '02, p.22]. The newly registered members are:

  • Optimation Technologies (Rush, N.Y.),

  • Tegron (Longview, Tex.), GES Technology (Harrisburg, Pa.),

  • Quantum Controls (Plymouth, Mich.),

  • Control Manufacturing Co. (Napa, Calif.), and

  • NEDDAM Software Technologies (Albany, N.Y.).

The total count of CSIA Registered Members now stands at 24 with half again as many currently in the process of completing their audits.
