Recent product introductions by Data Translation and RSVI Acuity CiMatrix offer machine vision and data matrix direct part mark reading capabilities. Both are said to be easy to set up and use, and include a number of options to best fit various options to the applications. Read more about each, with links to more resources on the Web sites of both.

Data Translation DT3145 is a high-performance, high-speed image acquisition board especially designed for use with Camera Link digital cameras. The company says it’s ideal for high-resolution scientific imaging, general-purpose imaging, and machine vision applications requiring high-performance image capture with simple cable interfacing. A free software bundle is included on Imaging Omni CD, with ready-to-run applications, DT Vision Foundry, and GLI/2 evaluations, WDM drivers, SDK, and more.

Data Translation also offers DT Vision Foundry 3.6 separately. The general-purpose machine vision inspection software supports DirectShow-compatible standard interfaces. Users can now quickly leverage DT Vision Foundry’s ease-of-use and integrated toolset to rapidly build applications using IEEE 1394 (FireWire) and USB cameras. DT Vision Foundry already supports a wide range of imaging devices and lets customers build inspection applications with the point, click and script interface. Graphical tools or API-level function calls are also available for use, depending on the level of customization needed. DT Vision Foundry 3.6 is available for immediate order with delivery within 30 days.

RSVI (Robot Vision Systems Inc.) Acuity CiMatrix division offers HawkEye 1500 Series data matrix direct part mark reading devices, said to operate without frame grabbers, monitors, or PC. Patented QuickSet audiovisual alignment, auto-learn capability, and intelligent imaging simplify integration and deployment—easing setup, line changeover, and maintenance. HawkEye 1515 is a universal reader for a broad range of applications. The 1525 data matrix reader reportedly has distortion-free, dark-field illumination typically used with highly reflective parts; the 1510 is intended for applications requiring flexibility with lighting and optics.
