DC electric motors with Hall sensors

Bosch i-Business Group explores new uses for Bosch DC electric motors with hall sensors in industrial, medical, and commercial applications that require precise control of motor speed or positioning mechanisms.

Bosch fractional horsepower dc electric motors with Hall sensors are a mainstay of the domestic and import automotive industry. Now, the i-Business Group of Robert Bosch LLC, has been given the mission to broaden the scope of these proven power/control performers by making the entire range of 12-24 V Bosch dc electric motors with Hall sensors available to developers of industrial, medical, and commercial applications that require precise control of motor speed or positioning mechanisms.

When used with dc electric motors, Hall sensors  can be used to detect  the direction and speed of rotation and position of the armature. By counting the generated output-voltage pulses, it becomes possible to determine the number of rotations, and therefore the speed, of the motor. Also, if the rotational motion is converted into a linear motion, it then becomes possible to monitor the  range of travel exactly. If there are two Hall generators installed offset to each other at a specific angle in a motor, then the direction of rotation can also be determined.

“Design engineers will find that Bosch dc electric motors with Hall sensors allow precise control of variable speed products like lawn mowers and golf carts and also for positioning mechanisms like those used to raise and lower industrial hoists and electric-powered hospital beds,” says Kenn Langosch, Sales Manager for Industrial Motors for Bosch. Bosch dc motors with Hall sensors can also be used for remote-controlled equipment such as garage door openers and salt spreaders installed on commercial and municipal vehicles.

“The Bosch i-Business Group is reaching out to new product design engineers to explore the full gamut of applications in which the use of Bosch DC electric motors can yield a host of advantages like improved product reliability and lower development and manufacturing costs,” says Langosch.

Bosch offers more than 50 models of dc electric motors that specifically feature Hall sensors. Langosch says, “The online Motor Search Tool on our website, www.bosch-ibusiness.com, makes it easy for customers to find and match Bosch motors  to their applications.”
