Web-based operator interface systems are among recent Control Engineering developments to watch. The Opto 22 groov system offers a secure, easy-to-use development environment for users to create an operator interface for mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) as well as PCs and high-definition TVs (HDTVs).

Once deployed, the operating system doesn’t matter. The Opto 22 groov human-machine interface (HMI) runs in a browser, scaling appropriately for the device. Control Engineering research shows that mobility, system integration, and security are large concerns among subscribers. I’ve seen several demonstrations, and this system addresses all three.
