Device maker ADASA wins technology excellence award

ADASA reports receipt of the Excellence in RFID Technology award delivered at the March 2007 RFID World conference in Dallas for the ADASA PAD3500, the industry’s first truly portable RFID tag encoding device.

The compact, wearable device enables workers to take the compliance workstation to the work—not the other way around. The benefit: highly efficient, strategically targeted tagging with the lowest total cost of ownership.

“The tag is encoded, not printed. You’re only encoding one tag at a time, which is a very controlled process avoiding mistakes and damage to tags," says Clarke McAllister, president of ADASA. "The tag comes out of a cartridge where the tags are pre-threaded, and when the cartridge is empty, it pops off the unit and is returned to converters."

The PAD3500 also takes advantage of foam attached tags (FAT), an advance in tag dispensing technology that resolves numerous problems associated with silicon paper-backed tags—from physics constraints on tag reads due to metal- and liquid-caused interference, to damaged tags caused by flexing to peel from paper rolls, to costly e-waste of silicon-based paper dispensing rolls that can’t be recycled. “None of the printer solutions can use FAT tags,” McAllister says.
