Two-year payback on retrofit of lights in New Berlin facility

Menlo Park, CA – Diageo has implemented a new energy saving initiative at its bottling facility in Menlo Park, CA, in order to reduce the facility’s carbon footprint and annual operating costs. The initiative involves the conversion of plant lighting to more energy efficient fixtures and the installation of timed lighting control panels throughout the plant.By making these improvements, the Menlo Park facility will save 200,000 kilowatts per year, preventing approximately 460,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the air. To put that contribution into context, it would take almost 10,000 trees to remove that much carbon dioxide from the air in one year. In addition, Diageo will also see energy cost savings of about $60,000 per year. The Menlo Park facility is also planning to convert the lights in its warehouse storage facility to more efficient fluorescent fixtures, improve energy management systems, such as heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, and identify reduction opportunities in systems that need to be constantly running as part of plant’s daily operations. For more information about Diageo visit www.diageo.com .
