Direct-drive tubular linear servo actuator

By Control Engineering Staff October 1, 2000

Carlsbad, Calif. -A new, direct-drive linear tubular motor provides peak force of 750 lb (at 30-A peak current) over a 2-12 in. stroke range. Stroke increments are 2 inches. The 5020-4 Linear Servo Motor obtains 60 Hz max. frequency response with Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets, said to be capable of accelerating/decelerating the actuator over a 0.12 in. distance. The shaft-mounted magnets slide within a stator assembly of electric coils. A servo controller with encoder feedback allows programming of position and force.
