ACS850 drive module from ABB is designed for industrial machinery applications such as converting, extruders, mixers, and web handling in the 1.5 to 600 hp at 480 V ac power range. Module features on-board safe-torque-off, removable memory block, an intelligent user interface with a series of assistant wizards, and modular hardware and software.

Safety is provided by an integrated safe torque off (STO) feature, which conforms with the requirements of SIL 3 / IEC 61508, Cat 4/EN 954-1, EN ISO 13849-1:PL e. There also are solutions available for safe stop 1(SS1), safe limited speed (SLS), safe brake control (SBC), safe speed monitor (SSM), and safe direction (SDI). With protection class IP20 (G frame IP00), modules have been optimized for installation into cabinets.

DriveStudio

ABB ACS850 uses the most up-to-date PC tool, ABB's DriveStudio. DriveStudio 1.5 has new, easy-to-use setup wizards that speed up parameter configuration during commissioning and help ensure that all the parameters related to the configuration are addressed, saving time and improving quality.

The smallest is only 3.7 in. wide , and all can be installed side-by-side. Removable memory block stores firmware plus all user settings and motor data so a drive can be replaced by simply swapping the block into the new drive). Includes an advanced adaptation of ABB's high-performance motor-control platform, Direct Torque Control (DTC), which enhances performance at low speed and with permanent magnet motors.

Features include :
• Improved performance close to zero speed without an encoder;
• Low motor noise mode;
• Higher output frequency, 500 Hz; and
• Improved motor identification at stand still.
The ACS850 also works with the latest generation of ABB high-speed serial interface modules, which support protocols including DeviceNet, Modbus RTU, Profibus, and CANopen. Suport for Ethernet/IP and Modbus-TCP was expected by the end of 2009. Module uses ABB's DriveStudio 1.5; new setup wizards speed up parameter configuration.
