Easier RFID integration to CANopen networks

CAN in Automation (CiA), a nonprofit organization, has released the CiA 445 CANopen device profile for radio frequency identification (RFID) readers/writers to enable easy system integration of RFID readers into networks in factory automation, laboratory automation, medical systems, product and asset management, and identifications systems.

Erlangen, Germany CAN in Automation (CiA), a nonprofit organization, has released the CiA 445 CANopen device profile for radio frequency identification (RFID) readers/writers to enable easy system integration of RFID readers into networks in factory automation, laboratory automation, medical systems, product and asset management, and identifications systems.

The profile simplifies interchangeability among

Usually, RFID systems consist of three parts, the transponder or data carrier, the reader that wirelessly reads/writes data to the transponder, and an external application such as a CANopen networked device that controls the system. The read transponder data may be used for control/diagnostic purposes in devices connected to the same network.

Companies that have participated in development of the profile specification within the CANopen Special Interest Group RFID include DeLaval International, FH Regensburg, Hans Turck, ifm electronics, Ixxat Automation, RM Michaelides, Schneider Electric, Sick, Siemens Medical Solutions, Vector Informatik, and others.
