Mitsubishi Electric Automation unleashes an innovative HMI solution for design engineers: The GT16 Series HMI, which tightly integrates multimedia and video that extends beyond the traditional KPI presentations. This is a Control Engineering 2013 Engineers' Choice finalist.Communication is a major challenge that faces design engineers around the world and the impact of a poorly designed machine can reverberate well past a single production line, but into the entire supply chain. The good news for design engineers at machine builders is that with their GT16 Series HMIs, Mitsubishi Electric Automation has infused the standard HMI display with much more than just basic visualization and simple blinking lights for communication.

The GT16 Series offers superior hardware quality, benchmark performance and a multitude of advanced features including an ultra-high speed RISC processor combined with Mitsubishi Electric's own HMI Graphics Accelerator. Phenomenal in clarity and display refresh, terminals provide an extensive range of advanced capabilities, including advance alarm management, flexible recipe management, data logging, multi-language support (Unicode 2.0), Microsoft Windows Fonts and a wide range of drivers support connection to most common automation vendors.

Machinery is becoming more sophisticated than some operators can understand and grasp. Guiding and instructing both skilled and unskilled technicians is difficult. Alarm conditions and the recovery process have moved well beyond the simplified icon on the screen. Today's engineers want access to help videos, multimedia tools and interactive instructions that can easily guide just about anyone to a resolution. Mitsubishi Electric Automation has taken its HMI manufacturing expertise and developed the GT16 HMI to satisfy all these requirements and more.

Key features summary:

  • Multimedia video and sound capabilities
  • Multi-language handling
  • Alarm management with conditional sequencing for use with multimedia files
  • Front mounted USB port promotes better connectivity for PC and maintenance equipment
  • Embedded diagnostics and preventive maintenance
  • Remote access capabilities

Poll of the Week

Are your industrial networks well defended against cyber attacks?
Like Fort Knox. Solid defense in depth.
Well defended, I think, but not positive.
Working on it, but not there yet.
Few defenses, but who would find us?
We’re wide open, living on borrowed time.
