V. 4.2 builds on earlier generations to provide a web-accessible package that allows network administrators to manage complex networks with an intuitive graphical interface and clear visualization of the network topology. It is easy to know how and where components connect, no matter the manufacturer. Enhanced Auto-topology Discovery uses standardized Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) to quickly build a representation of the network and its connectivity, including devices such as PLCs, I/O, and HMIs. It also detects devices including unmanaged switches and hubs, and devices located behind a router. Topology maps are 100% accurate and network documentation is always up to date.

Industrial HiVision’s MultiConfig reduces network installation time and ensures consistency when configuring network infrastructure. MultiConfig simultaneously configures the same parameters across multiple devices—even different types of devices that have parameters in common. It also highlights inconsistencies between parameter configurations, for rapid faultfinding. MultiConfig expedites network hand-over collateral because it can save and transfer configuration files. During live operation, MultiConfig ensures the highest network availability, with the least effort required for network administration and maintenance, while minimizing operational risk. It automates repetitive but essential maintenance tasks—including changing device passwords regularly and firmware updates. An ActiveX control and SNMP/OPC gateway facilitate network management integration into SCADA systems.

Industrial HiVision 4.2 also offers a Path Availability Calculator to calculate the availability of communication between two devices, when there are multiple physical paths and to show the effect of adding additional physical paths. Reporting tools provide information in various graphical formats or in Microsoft Excel. Users may measure and report on parameters of their choice with multiple parameters per graph.

Case Study Database

Get more exposure for your case study by uploading it to the Control Engineering case study database, where end-users can identify relevant solutions and explore what the experts are doing to effectively implement a variety of technology and productivity related projects.

These case studies provide examples of how knowledgeable solution providers have used technology, processes and people to create effective and successful implementations in real-world situations. Case studies can be completed by filling out a simple online form where you can outline the project title, abstract, and full story in 1500 words or less; upload photos, videos and a logo.

Poll of the Week

Are your industrial networks well defended against cyber attacks?
Like Fort Knox. Solid defense in depth.
Well defended, I think, but not positive.
Working on it, but not there yet.
Few defenses, but who would find us?
We’re wide open, living on borrowed time.
