Intelligent Compact Vision System SBOC-Q/SBOI-Q - Compact design, low weight, and an embedded PLC via CoDeSys make these cameras exceptionally flexible and powerful quality-inspection tools. This is a Control Engineering 2011 Engineers' Choice (EC) nominee.Every SBOC-Q/SBOI-Q vision system is provided with an embedded PLC via CoDeSys. The camera, with its integrated CANOpen master, drives motion and I/O products as a self-contained system. Ethernet provides the ability to communicate with other devices, PLCs, or other cameras. New applications are possible, i.e., handling and inspection in one, sharing camera data, and calculating dimensions, etc. Already integrated into the system are not only the imaging sensor system, but also a complete electronic evaluation unit and interfaces (Ethernet/ CAN) for communication with master controllers. On board digital I/O can be expanded by means of the CAN interface and CPI I/O from Festo.

Compact design and low weight make these cameras an ideal quality-inspection tool. With digital I/O, they are uncomplicated to integrate into existing systems and easy to commission by means of parameterization. The systems' ability to  learn up to 256 work pieces means maximum flexibility with regard to setup. The SBO-Q ensures 100 percent quality inspection, even where there are an enormous variety of part types. Whether it is used for orientation detection of small parts, the measurement of turned parts, the precise positioning of drives, code reading or character recognition, or the location of objects for the control of handling equipment, the intelligent vision system provides reliable inspection results for an extremely broad range of applications.

Embedded PLC performs autonomous control tasks for motion plus I/O. Standard software interfaces for Ethernet and CAN and integrated 24 V I/Os. Sensor resolution 640 x 480, 752 x 480, or 1,280 x 1,024 pixels (monochrome and color). Very short exposure times: The vision system can be used even when the work piece is traveling at high speeds or the camera or workpiece is vibrating. Compact dimensions, low weight. IP65, IP67.

Poll of the Week

Are your industrial networks well defended against cyber attacks?
Like Fort Knox. Solid defense in depth.
Well defended, I think, but not positive.
Working on it, but not there yet.
Few defenses, but who would find us?
We’re wide open, living on borrowed time.
