EC: IoT Gateway Suite

Software — Industrial Internet of Things connectivity: Iconics IoT Gateway Suite connects manufacturing plants, facilities and buildings to the most popular cloud platforms, and securely communicates via industrial and building automation standard protocols. This is a Control Engineering 2017 Engineers’ Choice Awards Finalist.

The IoT Gateway Suite is Iconics' launch pad for a new software architecture for visualization, analytics and mobile solutions based on Microsoft Azure. By leveraging the Azure Service Fabric, Iconics is utilizing the cloud for a true Platform as a Service (PaaS) solution to deploy and scale applications ideally suited to the new era of Industrie 4.0 and IoT deployments. This meets the need for service-based software offerings and value-added services that industrial automation and energy management customers worldwide are demanding.

The real power of this solution is in the implementation of low-cost hardware devices that can be placed in remote locations or just about anywhere there is information to be sent to the cloud. Known as "IoT gateways," these devices provide the bridge between an on-premises communications network and a cloud-based communications network. Configuration of the Iconics IoT Gateway Suite includes onboard industrial, energy management and building automation protocols, such as OPC UA, Modbus, BACnet and SNMP.

Once online, an IoT gateway connects to the Microsoft Azure IoT Hub so that it can authenticate, transmit and receive data. Acting as a secure message broker, the Microsoft Azure IoT Hub allows for remote device management, provisioning and configuration.

The IoT Gateway Suite is not about replacing any existing software or systems. It maximizes value in plants and facilities by publishing data to the cloud, ensuring operational uptime and global access to accumulated data and KPIs, future-proofing investments in equipment and infrastructure. This cloud-enabling technology greatly simplifies the deployment of IoT applications in a secure, scalable way that reduces costs, provides new revenue streams and improves customer experience. This makes the Iconics IoT Gateway Suite the ideal choice for any application.
