Eaton’s SC9000 EP arc-resistant drive is the industry’s first fully integrated arc-resistant medium voltage drive certified to Canadian Standards Association (CSA) C22.2 No.22-11 and witness-tested to Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) C37.20.7 through extensive assessment at a third-party laboratory.

The new drives build on Eaton’s highly reliable and award winning SC9000 EP platform, allowing customers to achieve energy savings while reducing facility downtime and enhancing personnel safety.

Eaton engineered the solution with arc fault detection circuits to prevent the possibility of an arc fault upon powering the drive. Should an arc event occur after power up, Eaton’s patented inverter encapsulation and short circuit protection technologies help prevent fault propagation and limit arc fault energy.

In addition, the SC9000 EP arc-resistant is designed with a robust arc-resistant Type 2B enclosure to provide the strength needed to resist the forces of arc events up to 50 kA and provide worker protection from the front, sides and rear of the enclosure, even with the control doors open. Enclosure controls direct arc blast energy through safe exhaust locations while an embedded exhaust cooling system significantly reduces the temperature of exhaust gas.

SC9000 EP arc-resistant medium voltage drives compliment Eaton’s extensive suite of arc-resistant power management solutions including Ampgard and Freedom motor control centers, as well as medium and low voltage switchgear—adding to the industry’s most comprehensive offering of arc flash safety solutions available today.

In addition to the CSA C22.2 No.22-11 and IEEE C37.20.7 arc-resistant ratings, the SC9000 EP drives meet the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 519 guideline for harmonic control and reactive compensation of static power converters, as well as Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 347 for medium-voltage power conversion equipment and Canadian Underwriters Laboratories (cUL) standards. The drives are also Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) compliant.
