Software - Control design: SOLIDWORKS 2014 is a 3D design solution that helps product designers expand innovation with powerful new tools and enhancements that shorten your design process, enhance collaboration, and increase productivity for design without limits. This is a Control Engineering 2014 Engineers’ Choice honorable mention.Product designers face an uphill challenge as customers want both advanced functionality and appealing designs, whether the product is a bottle of detergent or a new phone. SOLIDWORKS 2014 enables designers to achieve both goals, using tools and enhancements that shorten the design process, enhance collaboration and increase productivity to ensure innovative ideas are quickly brought to life.

Time-saving shortcuts, automated tools and drawing productivity enhancements give users the ability to quickly create and validate geometry faster so they are more productive and their designs more innovative. For example, new Style Spline functionality, automatic Sketch Picture scaling and Conic Fillet controls allow users to create complex surfaces and organic shapes faster, easier and with more precise control, while new sheet metal features enable faster creation of sheet metal geometry and improved data output for manufacturing.

New automated processes for drawing creation, rendering, simulation, and data management speed up the user's system and reduce the time it takes to complete their designs. The simulation process is further streamlined with by automatically leverage engineering data for re-use in simulations, eliminating duplication of effort and improving collaboration. Cost estimating and reporting has also been upgraded as key product development data can now be sent directly to Microsoft Excel, allowing easy sharing with manufacturing or purchasing departments.

Improved user interface and product visualization tools help users easily create and share dynamic views of their model to accelerate collaboration and product development. For example, SOLIDWORKS eDrawings now includes support for Android devices and Augmented Reality support for iOS.

Also, SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM's web client now has a new graphical preview and tighter integration with Microsoft Office.
